Description
Melanotan I (also known as afamelanotide) is a linear synthetic analogue of alpha-MSH, and shares its core mechanism of action with Melanotan II — binding to melanocortin receptors to stimulate melanogenesis. It has a longer documented research history and a more targeted receptor profile, which has made it a preferred compound in certain areas of pigmentation research.
Research into Melanotan I has explored its application in photoprotection biology, with particular focus on its ability to increase eumelanin production in skin tissue. It has also been studied in relation to erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a condition characterised by severe light sensitivity, making it one of the more clinically relevant peptides in this category for researchers in dermatological science.
Supplied as a lyophilised powder. For research purposes only.
